Questions and Answers

The United Way of the Pine Belt Region was established in August 1958 under the name of Jones County Givers Fund, Inc. Stewart Gilcrest was elected as the first President of the organization. At that time, the building was located behind the old Laurel Federal building which is currently Cadence. The name was eventually changed to the United Way of Jones County in 1979, and by 1989, the Board of Directors decided to extend the services to counties outside of Jones County. Thus, the United Way of Jones County became the United Way of the Pine Belt Region. In 1992, Mrs. Jean Chisholm donated the current building to the United Way of the Pine Belt Region in honor of the Chisholm family.
